Step – #01: Determine Your Collection Line-Sheet Size
Whether you are designing for a runway or creating a collection for an online store you got to have a set of styles. Usually, it is good to focus on one category like Activewear, Yoga Wear, Casual wear, and so on. So, you should focus on one segment and move forward with that. Now in that segment, there can be T-Shirts, Shorts, Pullovers, etc. For a startup, it’s not possible to touch each style as there is a budget limitation. So, you choose your style to go for first. Now making the list of those styles is important and is the first step. List out the styles you want to proceed with. You can do this keeping in mind your budget and the amount of money you can invest. At this point your list may look like this. 1 . T-Shirt 2. Hoodie, 3. Tank Top and so on. This is the starting point.
Step – #02 Time to Play with Google Image Search

This is fun at the same time you can consider it as research. Go to Google and search for The style you want to design and produce for your collection line sheet. For example, I have taken a” raglan sleeve t-shirt for men’s Athleisure”. Click on Images on the top bar and there you have the images. Check the style that is similar to what you have thought of and save that image to your computer. Repeat this for each style you want to get the design and tech packs created.
Do an Image search in Google for each of the styles. Create a separate folder for each design and put images similar to the style that you want to design. Name the folders after the styles you have envisioned getting fresh designs. This will help the tech pack designer understand what you are looking for. Google Images are considered the natural source of inspiration for fashion designers. Especially when you are about to chalk out a collection line sheet. You can copy the image to a Word file and mention your customization comments or mention it in writing. Also mention the types of trims you want to use, colors, materials, and so on. Mention the type of stitches, and gathers you want to give to your style as well. This will give a clear image to the technical designer while preparing the fashion flats. One for Regular and the other one for big and tall people. All popular brands although have their measurement standards, follow this standard. So, for startup fashion labels it is good if you follow the standard. Deviating from the standard measurement makes things complicated.
